Energy Star Air Conditioning

Since the central air conditioner requires a blower motor, typically part of the furnace, it may be necessary to replace the furnace for optimum efficiency.  Replacing the furnace is especially recommended if it is more than 15 years old.  This way, both units are compatible and you won’t be spending more money in the long run by replacing only one or the other which may require additional labor to make both components work efficiently together. 

The best way to enjoy a highly-efficient heating and cooling system is to purchase both the furnace and central air conditioning unit as a packaged system that is designed to work together.  Connecting a new, Energy Star air conditioner to an old furnace will not perform efficiently.
